A wild courtroom brawl broke out between a grieving Kansas mom and the family of her 14-year-old son’s killer — after she asked that the murderer get the “maximum possible sentence” in the slaying.
A courtroom camera caught the fistfight that erupted inside the Sedgwick County Courthouse on April 8 between Jeanette Dees, 48, and the kin of convicted killer Te’Bryis Robinson, 19, local KWCH reported.
The murder victim’s mother spoke to the judge before the sentencing, which sparked anger among some of the defendant’s relatives in the courtroom. KSN TVThe clip shows a Dees family member getting up from his seat in the courtroom and socking a member of Robinson’s family in the face.
That sparked a throwdown between both families in the middle of the courtroom — with Dees, of Wichita, and court officers attempting to quell the violence.
The fight broke out following Dees’ statement before the court, when she asked the judge to deliver the “maximum possible sentence” for her son’s killer while also directing angry comments at Robinson and his family and friends in the room.
The mom’s comments caused a stir in the courtroom, leading to insults and gestures being flung around before the first punch was thrown.
Several people were kicked out of the courtroom. The judge sentenced Robinson to 21 years and 3 months in prison for the murder of TrenJ’vious “Tubby” Hutton.
