A rare snowstorm pelted the Florida Panhandle on Monday morning as a fast-moving system blanketed parts of the southeastern US, bringing with it bone-chilling temperatures.
“Well how’s this for a temperature change?” the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter, with a video of the flakes falling at night.
“From 75 degrees at 3 in the afternoon to snow at 3 am captured during patrol in Lowe’s parking lot on Beal by B-Shift Central!” the tweet said. “Bundle up out there!”
“It’s snowing,” a deputy is heard saying on the video. “See? Snow.”
Florida hadn’t seen snowfall since winter 2018. Twitter/@ocsoalertsThe National Weather Service told WPLG-TV on Monday that the snow would only amount to “just a few little flurries.”
But even flurries are a rare sight in Florida — the last time was in January 2018, when a snowstorm hit Tallahassee for the first time in three decades and shut down schools and a stretch of I-10, the outlet reported.
