SAN DIEGO — A Southern California woman and her gun instructor have each received lengthy prison sentences for their roles in what authorities called a botched murder-for-hire plot targeting her husband, who was shot but survived.

Diana Lovejoy was sentenced Wednesday to 26 years to life for her conviction last year of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Weldon McDavid Jr. received 50 years to life because he was the one who pulled the trigger and shot Greg Mulvihill on a dark, dirt path in Carlsbad. McDavid was convicted in November of the same charges as Lovejoy.

During their sentencing hearing, each continued to deny that a murder-for-hire scheme ever existed.

At the time of the shooting, Lovejoy and Mulvihill were in the midst of heated divorce.
