A Michigan mother has been arraigned on murder and gun charges in the fatal shooting of a Family Dollar security guard in an alleged dispute over a face mask.

Prosecutors believe Sharmel Teague, 45, sparked the argument that led to Friday’s shooting death of security guard Calvin Munerlyn, 43, as he enforced a face mask policy at the store in Flint, WJRT reports.

Teague and her daughter, who has not been charged, left the store after the argument. Her 44-year-old husband, Larry Teague, and her son, Ramonyea Bishop, 23, then returned some 20 minutes later to confront Munerlyn, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said.

“It’s not a long conversation, and then immediately the younger man pulls out the gun, points it and pulls the trigger and the victim drops to the floor,” Leyton said Tuesday during Sharmel Teague’s arraignment.

Teague, who appeared in court via video, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder and a felony firearms charge in the slaying. Her husband and son, who also face first-degree premeditated murder charges, were being sought late Tuesday by the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team, WJRT reports.

A message seeking comment early Wednesday from Michigan State Police was not immediately returned.

Leyton said he believes the suspects are still alive, but it’s unclear whether they’re on the run together. Investigators plan to search their homes, he said.

“MSP’s fugitive folks are the best in the business and they will find them,” Leyton told the station. “They will capture them, they will bring them to justice.”

Anyone who helps the pair evade arrest may also face charges, Leyton told MLive.com.

A judge denied bond for Teague during her court appearance Tuesday. She’s expected to return to court on May 14, the website reports.
