FRAZIER PARK, Calif. — Authorities say two people are dead after a woman stole an ambulance at knifepoint and crashed it into a big rig near the Grapevine freeway pass northwest of Los Angeles.

Kern County fire Capt. Tyler Townsend says firefighters and paramedics with Hall Ambulance Service answered a woman’s call for medical aid Wednesday evening in the Frazier Park area, about 60 miles from LA.

Townsend says the woman then stole the ambulance from paramedics and took off alone but collided with a tractor-trailer in front of a truck stop near the popular Interstate 5 mountain pass.

The woman and the driver of the big rig died at the scene.

Their names haven’t been released.
