Sudanese officials say a woman condemned to death for converting to Christianity will be freed — but her lawyer is calling it a tactic to quiet an international outcry.
Meriam Ibrahim, 27, a mom of two, was sentenced on May 15 to hang for abandoning Islam. Saturday, government officials said she’d be released.
“The lady will be freed within days,” said Foreign Ministry undersecretary Abdullah al-Azraq.
But her attorney, Elshareef Ali Mohammed, called reports of her release “absurd.”
Ibrahim, who married a Christian, gave birth to her daughter last week in prison.
