A Chinese woman distracted by her cell phone, fell into a canal and drowned, disturbing surveillance video shows.

Footage shows the moment the 28-year-old woman fell into a shallow canal in Houyang Village, according to Central European News.

She can be seen flailing in the water, clearly unable to swim, for about a minute before her head sinks.

A man who identified himself as the victim’s husband said she was supposed to stay at a friend’s house that evening.

He only found out about her death when authorities discovered her shoes floating the water.

Chinese authorities warned locals to be extra careful near the canals, which can be muddy — and to avoid getting distracted by their cell phones while walking.
