A Portland grandmother “overjoyed” to get out again after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine was killed in a hit-and-run rampage, her family said.

Jean Gerich, 77, died after a driver, Paul Rivas, 64, deliberately plowed down her and nine others Monday afternoon in southeast Portland, news station KGW reported.

She was brought to a hospital, where she died of blunt force trauma, news station KATU reported.

Her family said in a statement that she was a grandmother of five and cancer survivor.

“She received her first vaccination shot last week and was overjoyed to get out in the world again,” her family said.

The other victims were left wounded from what authorities believe was an intentional rampage, the outlet reported.

Rivas drove away from the scene but was then cornered by good Samaritans, KATU reported.

When police arrived, he was tackled before being taken into custody, the outlet reported.

He was booked into jail on charges of murder, assault, and failure to perform the duties of a driver, the outlet reported.

No motive was released behind the deadly string of crashes, but authorities said they don’t believe that terrorism, bias or politics played a role.
