WASHINGTON — The Pentagon yesterday told its 800,000 civilian employees to brace for unpaid furloughs, unless President Obama and Congress stop deep federal-spending cuts set to hit next week.

The unpaid days off — one day per week for 22 weeks — will help the Pentagon achieve the mandated $46 billion cut this year. About 11,500 civilian military workers in New York will be impacted by the furloughs.
