A Disney Cruise ship headed for Bermuda rescued four stranded boaters off a sinking catamaran Sunday morning.

The 50-foot catamaran, named Serenity, experienced a gasket failure in the escape hatch that caused the ship to start to fill with water some 230 miles off the coast of Bermuda, according to ABC7.

Panicked passengers aboard Serenity began to call for help, prompting a response from the Disney Treasure, a new cruise ship with a base in Port Canaveral, Florida.

The Disney ship answered the US Coast Guard’s call from about 80 miles away, launching one of its small boats and rescuing the four shipwrecked boaters.

“We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety,” Disney Treasure Captain Marco Nogara said in a statement to the outlet.

According to a spokesperson for the cruise line, the Disney Treasure had been heading from Eemshaven, Netherlands, to Port Canaveral, Florida, at the time of the incident.

The four boaters were recovered safely and had no medical issues to report.

The Disney Treasure is the second of three Triton class vessels and the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

The ship, which has 1,256 staterooms, is set to embark on its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on Dec. 21.
