Exiled Hamas chief Khalil Al-Hayya declared Thursday that the war in Gaza is over after receiving assurances from the US and other nations about the cease-fire deal brokered by President Trump.
Al-Hayya delivered the long-awaited message as Israel and the Palestinian terror group signed an agreement to stop the fighting and allow the remaining Israeli hostages to be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
“We acted responsibly in relation to Trump’s plan,” he said, according to Times of Israel.

“Today we announce an agreement to end the war, [see Israel] withdraw from the Strip and carry out a prisoner exchange.”
He said Hamas received guarantees from the US, Arab mediators and Turkey that the war in Gaza has ended permanently.
He also said along with the end of the war, the deal will pave the way to reopen a key crossing with Egypt and see all jailed Palestinian women and children released by Israeli authorities.

As part of the peace deal, the Israeli army is supposed to withdraw from Gaza in stages and Hamas is supposed to disarm.

The two-year conflict in Gaza was sparked after Hamas’ depraved attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 that killed 1,200 people and led to another 250 being kidnapped back to the Palestinian enclave.
About 20 living hostages and about another 28 bodies of slain captives remain in Gaza.
Hamas praised Trump for his effort to secure a deal to stop the war, and the terror group said Gaza could be on its way to “independence and self-determination.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the breakthrough deal a “great day for Israel.”
