Israel had a plan to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — but President Trump vetoed the operation, according to reports.

Israeli officials reported that they had an opportunity to kill Iran’s top leader, but Trump persuaded them not to go through with it, two unidentified officials told Reuters.

“Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do, we’re not even talking about going after the political leadership,” an official said.

Axios reporter Barak Ravid said Sunday that his sources also confirmed that Trump nixed an Israeli plan to kill the Islamic Republic’s leader.

US officials have been in constant communication with their Israeli counterparts since Israel launched a massive attack on Iran in a bid to end Tehran’s nuclear program.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined comment on the assassination report in a Sunday interview with Fox News’ “Special Report With Bret Baier.”

“There’s so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I’m not going to get into that,” he said. “But I can tell you, I think that we do what we need to do, we’ll do what we need to do. And I think the United States knows what is good for the United States.”

Israel’s preemptive strike triggered three-days of deadly tit-for-tat bombardments with Iran that show no signs of slowing down as both nations have vowed to keep the retaliation going. 

At least 13 Israelis have been killed in the attacks on the Jewish state since the conflict began.

Sunday’s hostilities began with Iran blaming Israel for five car bombs that detonated near government buildings in Tehran, according to Iranian state media.

The Israel Air Force then conducted its longest-range strike of the operation, hitting an Iranian refueling tanker aircraft at the Mashhad Airport, located nearly 1,400 miles from Israel. 

The attacks were followed up by another volley of Iranian ballistic missiles, with two rockets striking in the north and south of the country, according to local reports. Six people were injured.

One of the missiles created a large fire in the city of Haifa, with two people hurt by shrapnel from the explosion. 

Israel’s missile defense system and air force, aided by the US military, has been working around the clock over the weekend to intercept Tehran’s missile and drone barrages. 

Meanwhile, in Iran, human rights advocates estimate that at least 406 people have been killed by the Israeli airstrikes, with another 654 injured.  

Unlike Israel, which has public shelters in place to shield civilians from airstrikes, many Iranians have opted to flee Tehran on Sunday to escape the airstrikes, with images of gridlock roads flooding social media and local reports. 

The IDF has issued evacuation orders to residents in Tehran, calling on everyone to steer clear of all military facilities.

Despite the escalation and the Israeli military saying that the fighting has “reached the point of no return,” Trump predicted that both Iran and Israel will “make a deal” to end the conflict soon.  

“Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal, just like I got India and Pakistan to make, in that case by using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday.

“We will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!” he added.
