Iran has fired another volley of ballistic missiles towards Israel, with sirens ringing across the Jewish state as residents are warned to remain in shelters.

The Israel Defense Forces said its “defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat” following Tehran’s latest retaliatory attack on Sunday afternoon.

“The public is instructed to enter a protected space and remain there until further notice,” the IDF statement said.

At least four people were injured after one of the downed missiles landed in southern Israel, the Times of Israel reported.

The missiles also struck a building in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, with firefighters rushing to extinguish the blaze that saw an entire street engulfed in flames.

Magen David Adom, the emergency service operating in Israel, said at least two more people were hurt by shrapnel from the explosion in Haifa.     

Israel’s missile defense system and Air Force has been working around the clock over the weekend to intercept Tehran’s missile barrages, which have killed at least 13 people since the conflict began Friday.

Along with intercepting missiles, the Israeli Air Force also published video of its troops taking out about 20 drones headed for the Jewish state on Sunday morning. 

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir demanded Iran end its retaliatory attacks against Israel or “pay a heavy price.”

“Citizens of Israel, we are now on the third day of Operation Rising Lion,” Zamir said in a statement to residents taking shelter after Israel fired a preemptive attack on Iran nuclear facilities Friday.

“This is a historic and unprecedented operation aimed at significantly damaging the existential threat that Iran has built for years to destroy us,” he added. “We knew there would be a price, and this underscores why we acted now, before it was too late.”

The tit-for-tat violence shows no signs of slowing down, with both Israel and Iran vowing to keep the attacks going until the other chooses to stop first. 

Along with the 13 dead in Israel, officials said that another 380 people have been injured. 

Meanwhile, in Iran, human rights advocates estimate that at least 406 people have been killed by the Israeli airstrikes, with another 654 injured.
