An Israeli mother of two was dragged out of a Holocaust Memorial Day event in Dublin on Sunday after protesting the Irish president’s mention of Gaza during his speech.

Viral video of the event shows a woman grabbing Israeli Lior Tibet, 37, and forcibly removing her from Dublin’s Mansion House, where PresidentMichael Higgins was giving his speech marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Tibet was among several Jewish attendees protesting Higgins’ inclusion in the event given his previous criticism of Israel over the war, and his mention Sunday of the conflict — lamenting the “horrific loss of life” in Gaza — served as the breaking point for them, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported.

The protesters stood up during Higgins’ address — and at least Tibet turned her back on him as he spoke.

“How can you take a Jewish person out of this commemoration event? I was just standing,” Tibet yelled as she was dragged out.

“We waited for so long in his speech, and he said a lot of controversial things, but we waited until we couldn’t wait any longer, and that’s it,” Tibet later told reporters. “We stood up, we turned our back, as peaceful as we can.”

During his speech, Higgins asked that those who have suffered over the Israel-Hamas war welcome “the long-overdue ceasefire, for which there has been such a heavy price paid,” while mentioning Israeli losses and also the strife in Gaza for Palestinians.

Tibet, a PhD student at University College Dublin, was accused of hijacking the event meant to honor the victims of the Holocaust, but she said it was Higgins who ruined it with comments that were “very hurtful and dismissive to our experience.”

“None of my Israeli and Jewish friends are responsible for [the war in Gaza], and to see Higgins hijacking our commemoration event is just unbearable,” she told reporters.

Higgins’ address at the event came despite pleas from senior representatives of the local Jewish community asking him not to serve as the event’s keynote speaker.

After the speech, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar condemned Higgins’ words as “cheap, despicable provocation.

“The biggest murderous attack against Jews since the Holocaust was perpetrated from Jihadist Gaza. Nonetheless, he echoed Hamas’ anti-Semitic lies and propaganda at a Holocaust memorial ceremony, leading to the removal of Jews, descendants of Holocaust survivors, from the event,” Saar wrote on X.

“What a despicable person. What a distorted policy. Shame!” he added.
