A Mexican woman was sentenced this week to 20 years in prison for the role she played in the 2024 robberies and murders of three surfers, prosecutors said.

Ary Gisell Silva, 23, befriended three tourists  — Australian brothers Jake and professional lacrosse player Callum Robinson, who were 30 and 33, respectively, and American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30 — in Punta San Jose, at a popular coastal surfing spot in North Baja.

Silva then “instigated” three of “her companions,” including her boyfriend, “to rob them of their belongings,” prosecutors said at trial.

Their bodies were found in a sparsely populated area 50 miles south of Ensenada, Mexico.

Silva told her three friends the men had expensive phones and new tires on their truck. 

The men were camping in a remote beachside area when they were ambushed.

The surfers were reported missing on April 27, 2024, and authorities believe they were killed when Silva’s companions tried stealing their pickup truck.

Prosecutors said the assailants “intentionally surprised the surfers and shot them with firearms, taking their lives on Sunday, April 28.”

Their bodies were found May 3, 2024, concealed in a nearby cliff.

Silva was found guilty of crimes related to the “violent robbery,” at Thursday’s sentencing.

Evidence presented in court proved Silva was the first to make contact with her victims — and noticed their valuables. She later urged her boyfriend and the other two men to rob them.

Later, she claimed the boyfriend showed up at her home, and told her he’d done something to “three gringos,” according to a BBC report. When she asked what he meant, he told her “I killed them,” Silva alleged in court.

The three other accomplices have been charged with the murders, and will be tried next year. 

This is not the first time surfers have been murdered in Mexico. 

In November 2015, Australian surfers Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman were murdered while traveling through cartel-controlled Sinaloa, and their bodies were later found burned.
