A Dutch man who took several people hostage at a nightclub in the Netherlands was arrested Saturday after an hours-long standoff with police, authorities said.

The 28-year-old suspect — a Dutch citizen who wasn’t immediately identified — was taken into custody outside Cafe Petticoat in Ede, where four people, including employees, had been held.

No one was hurt during the incident, which started at about 5:30 a.m., prompting the evacuation of roughly 150 homes, police said.

Investigators were working to determine a motive, but there was no indication of terrorism.

The unidentified resident of Ede — a town about 50 miles southeast of Amsterdam — had previously been convicted of threatening behavior in a separate incident.

The victims were “quite shocked and shaken,” Ede police said in a statement, adding counselors were being provided to them on Saturday.
