The paralyzed gang-rape victim who fought for years — including against her own father — for her right to die ended her life Thursday in Barcelona.
Noelia Castillo, 25, received life-ending medication that put an end to the chronic pain she suffered following a suicide attempt that left her paralyzed from the waist down.
Castillo had been confined to a wheelchair since 2022 — when she jumped out a window of a fifth-floor building, traumatized by being raped by three men at a state-supervised facility for vulnerable youth.

Castillo was approved for assisted suicide in 2024, but the approval was challenged by her father, who was supported by the conservative religious Spanish group Abogados Cristianos (Christian Lawyers). Castillo was approved for assisted suicide in 2024 but her father fought her wishes — going to court to seek a last minute-appeal to halt the procedure.
Castillo said her father “hasn’t respected my decision and he never will.”
Castillo, of Barcelona, will undergo the lethal procedure at an assisted living facility in Spain on Thursday, ending a years-long legal battle and the young woman’s life. Y ahora Sonsoles“Why does he want me alive? To keep me in a hospital?” she questioned.

Assisted suicide has been legal in Spain since 2021.
