Russia is “completely ignoring” the latest cease-fire offer as it continues to attack Ukraine “all along” the front line, Kyiv’s Foreign Minister has said on Monday.
“Russians are completely ignoring the offer of a full and durable ceasefire starting on May 12. They continue to attack Ukrainian positions all along the frontline,” Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha wrote on X.
“Moscow squanders another opportunity to put an end to the killings. This once again demonstrates that Russia’s only goal is to prolong the war,” he added.

“Truce proposals are being ignored, hostile attacks on railway infrastructure… continue,” Ukraine’s national railways company said in a post on Telegram.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed he had invited the new Pope, Leo XIV, to the war-torn country.
“I invited His Holiness to make an apostolic visit to Ukraine. Such a visit would bring real hope to all believers and to all our people,” Zelensky wrote on X,

“Ukraine wants to end this war and is doing everything to achieve that. We now await similar steps from Russia,” he added.
Europe has warned Russia that it faces fresh sanctions if it does not agree to an unconditional 30-day cease-fire in Ukraine by the end of Monday.
“If Moscow does not accept the demand, preparations will be set in motion in Brussels for fresh sanctions,” German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said, as reported by BILD.

European foreign ministers have discussed new sanctions against Russia’s central bank, its energy sectors and its financial system, as well as proposing fresh defense assistance packages for Ukraine, Sybiha added on X, speaking from London where he was meeting with his counterparts from across the continent.
Representatives from European nations are meeting in London today for a meeting of the so-called “Weimar+” group, France24 reported.
It follows Saturday’s visit to Kyiv by leaders from France, Germany, Poland and the UK where they called for the 30-day unconditional cease-fire, which they said was backed by the US.
President Putin responded by calling for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine this Thursday in the Turkish city of Istanbul, but did not acknowledge European calls for a cease-fire.

“If there is no cease-fire, there cannot be talks under fire,” diplomat Kaja Kallas said, accusing Putin of “playing games” with his latest strikes.
“It takes two to want peace. It takes only one to want war. And we see that Russia clearly wants war,” she added.
