A South African superyacht crew member was apparently murdered just days shy of her 21st birthday while the nearly 150-foot luxury vessel was moored in the Bahamas, police said. 

Paige Bell, 20, was found dead in the engine room of the ship on July 3, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

She was partially undressed after she was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered by Mexican national Brigido Munoz, the superyacht’s engineer, the Daily Mail reported.

The smiling sailor was due to turn 21 on July 14, and had been crewing on the yacht Far From It — which charters for nearly $140,000 per week and was anchored off Harbour Island.

She was injured and unresponsive when her body was discovered, with a doctor later declaring her dead, police said. 

Munoz was found near her body with injuries to his arms that police suspect were the result of a suicide attempt.

He was taken to a hospital and treated before being charged.

A native of Johannesburg, Bell was remembered as a “golden girl” by loved ones, while former employers in the yachting world also spoke glowingly of her, the Daily Mail reported. 

“Paige was more than a teammate, she was family,” wrote a crew member from one of her former boats, the Sweet Emocean.

“Her radiant spirit, infectious laughter, and boundless compassion made an unforgettable impact on everyone lucky enough to know her,” they added. 

“Whether it was long days at sea or quiet moments under the stars, she brought light and warmth wherever she went.”

Exactly what led to her death remains unclear, and police are still investigating.

Munoz was denied bail and will remain jailed until his Nov. 20 hearing, officials said, according to Daily Mail.
