When Islamist rebel forces in Syria marched into Damascus and stormed the palace of Bashar al-Assad on Sunday, they found a massive fleet of high-end cars, including Mercedes, Porches, Audis and Ferraris.

Videos shared on social media show gleeful looters touring a massive garage in the presidential palace, chock full of high-end roadsters from the deposed dictator’s private stash.

One eagle-eye commenter pointed to a coveted Mercedes-Benz with gullwing doors.

SUVs, motorcycles, ATVs, and what appears to be an armored truck also awaited the rebels, who traipsed through the sprawling mansion taking selfies, firing guns into the air and making off with anything that wasn’t bolted down, videos shared on X show.

President-elect Donald Trump urged Russia to negotiate a halt to the fighting in Ukraine following to fall of the Assad regime in Syria — saying the Kremlin was in a “weakened state” as a result of the war and the “bad economy.”

“There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin. Too many lives are being so needlessly wasted, too many families destroyed, and if it keeps going, it can turn into something much bigger, and far worse,” Trump, 78, posted on Truth Social early Sunday.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday welcomed news of the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and said France will remain committed to the security of all in the Middle East.

"The barbaric state has fallen. Finally. I pay tribute to the Syrian people, to their courage, to their patience. In this moment of uncertainty, I wish them peace, freedom and unity," Macron said in a post on X social media.

"France will remain committed to the security of all in the Middle East."

President-elect Donald Trump said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad fled the country when Russian President Vladimir Putin was "no longer interested" in protecting the dictator.

Al-Assad's nearly quarter-century rule ended Saturday when he boarded a plane and left Damascus for an unknown destination, according to Reuters, citing two senior army officials.

"Assad is gone. He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer," Trump said on his Truth Social on Sunday. "There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever."

Trump added that there should be an immediate cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine and negotiations to "stop the madness" should begin.

Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky before the formal reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

The pair — along with France's Emmanuel Macron — discussed the war in Ukraine since it will mark three years since Russia invaded the country in February.

Zelensky called the trilateral meeting at Élysée Palace "good and productive."

President Trump is, as always, resolute. I thank him," Zelensky said. "I also extend my gratitude to Emmanuel for organizing this important meeting.

"We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a just way. We spoke about our people, the situation on the ground, and a just peace."

Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Jalali said on Sunday that Syria should hold free elections to allow its people to decide their leadership.

In an interview with Al-Arabiya, Jalali also said he had been in contact with rebel commander Abu Mohammed al-Golani to discuss managing the current transitional period, marking a notable development in efforts to shape Syria's political future.

The Syrian army said early on Sunday that its forces were pressing ahead with military operations against "terrorist groups" in the countryside of Hama, Homs and Deraa, areas that have witnessed escalating clashes in recent days.

The statement comes after rebel forces announced on television they had freed Damascus and ousted President Bashar al-Assad's government.

The Syrian army said there was a need for awareness of what it described as a large-scale plot targeting the country, urging citizens to remain vigilant in defending Syria's stability and sovereignty.

Syrian rebels are engaged in an active search for deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and are questioning military officials and intelligence analysts over his whereabouts, CNN reported.

Syria Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali told Saudi Arabia media that he last spoke with Assad Saturday and hasn't been able to reach him since.

Assad reportedly fled the country after rebels seized control of Damascus, it is unclear where he is currently.

Israel has deployed military forces into the buffer zone with Syria in the Golan heights after rebels overthrew the Assad regime, the IDF said in a statement.

“The IDF has deployed troops in the buffer zone and in a number of areas that are necessary to defend, in order to ensure the security of the communities in the Golan Heights and the citizens of Israel,” the statement said.

The IDF emphasized that they are not interfering in the Syrian civil war, and was done to prevent the possibility of gunmen entering the zone.

A video purportedly shows Syrian rebels announcing the fall of the Assad regime and the release of "unjustly imprisoned detainees" on Syrian state TV.

"The liberation of Damascus and the overthrow of the tyrant Bashar al-Assad have been achieved, along with the release of all unjustly imprisoned detainees from the regime’s prisons," the rebels, wearing black hoodies and winter jackets, announced in the clip.

"[We] urge fellow fighters and citizens to safeguard all properties of the free Syrian State," the rebels added.

Assad fled the country after rebels seized its capital Damascus with little by way of resistance after having taken cities Aleppo, Hama and Homs in little over a week.

Thousands of shots can be heard in the video from celebrants presumably firing their weapons into the air early Sunday morning.

Syrian Army command has announced that the nearly 25-year rule of dictator Bashar al-Assad has come to an end, Reuters reported.

Officers were notified of the toppling of the dictator Sunday, a senior officer claimed.

Assad rose to power after the death of his father Haffez died in 2000. Haffez al-Assad took control of Syria following a coup in 1971.
