PROTARAS, Cyprus — President Trump predicted that both Iran and Israel will “make a deal” — even as the conflict escalated Sunday, with the Jewish state hitting Iran with airstrikes and multiple explosions outside government offices in Tehran.

“Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal, just like I got India and Pakistan to make, in that case by using TRADE with the United States to bring reason, cohesion, and sanity into the talks with two excellent leaders who were able to quickly make a decision and STOP!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday.

The battle between Israel and Iran continued unabated on Sunday. As Trump made his post, Iran blamed Israel for five car bombs that detonated near government buildings in Tehran Sunday, according to Iranian state media.

The Israel Air Force also conducted its longest-range strike of the operation, hitting an Iranian refueling tanker aircraft at the Mashhad Airport, located nearly 1,400 miles from Israel. 

“The IAF is operating to establish aerial superiority over Iranian airspace. This marks the longest-range strike conducted since the beginning of Operation Rising Lion,” the Israeli military touted on X.

“Israel’s done everything in its power for years. We’re talking about 15, 20 years of Israel warning (Iran) and doing everything we can,” Shoshani told The Post in response to a question about Trump’s post. 

“The goal is not, and I said this before, not to annihilate Iran. This operation is the means to achieve the goal of removing an existential threat from above us, and if there is another way to remove this existential threat, I think our leadership and political cchelon needs to speak about it,” Shoshani added. 

“This is not the type of thing you can be wrong about or late about or miss the chance.” 

Shoshani would neither confirm or deny whether Israel was behind the car bombs in Iran Sunday, telling reporters that “the people in Iran who are promoting and advancing this nuclear bomb are not safe.”

Israel had conducted a series of preemptive strikes on Iran last week, targeting its nuclear facilities, killing top military brass and wiping out key scientists in the theocratic regime. 

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said earlier this week that the strikes happened “because the time had come; we’d reached the point of no return” when it comes to stopping Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Among the military leadership rumored to have been killed was the Islamic Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force Gen. Esmail Qaani, according to the New York Times.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed those strikes were “just the beginning,” and Iran has promised brutal retaliation.

“Life will be dark for them,” Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, vowed, referring to Israel. “They started it. They started a war.”

Iran’s air strikes on Israel overnight Saturday killed 11 people, including seven in a single apartment building in Bat Yam. 

Despite Israel’s efforts to debilitate Iran’s nuclear capabilities, the regime is still believed to have its Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant still in tact. 

Fordow is buried deep underground and many analysts believe Israel would need US strategic bombers and giant bunker buster bombs to destroy it. So far Trump has said the US doesn’t intend to get involved other than helping to defend Israel from Iranian missile retaliation. 

“We’re not involved in it. It’s possible we could get involved. But we are not at this moment involved,” Trump told ABC News in an interview.

Trump also reiterated that his objective is to strike a nuclear deal with Iran. American and Iranian negotiators had been slated to meet in Oman for talks on Sunday but that got scrapped in the wake of Israel’s preemptive strikes. Trump had given Iran 60 days to come to the table and claimed the strikes came the day after the 60-day marker. 

“No, there’s no deadline. But they are talking. They’d like to make a deal. They’re talking. They continue to talk,” Trump said of Iran. “Something like this had to happen…May have forced a deal to go quicker, actually.”

The president, who spoke on the phone with Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin Saturday, his 79th birthday, also mused when asked that the Kremlin strongman could serve as a mediator between Russia and Iran.

“He is ready. He called me about it. We had a long talk about it. We talked about this more than his situation. This is something I believe is going to get resolved,” Trump told ABC News. 

In his Truth Social post, Trump rattled through past military skirmishes between other countries and credited himself for helping to usher in peace. 

“During my first term, Serbia and Kosovo were going at it hot and heavy, as they have for many decades, and this long time conflict was ready to break out into WAR. I stopped it (Biden has hurt the longer term prospects with some very stupid decisions, but I will fix it, again!),” Trump further claimed.

“Another case is Egypt and Ethiopia, and their fight over a massive dam that is having an effect on the magnificent Nile River. There is peace, at least for now, because of my intervention, and it will stay that way!” he went on.

“Likewise, we will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place. I do a lot, and never get credit for anything, but that’s OK, the PEOPLE understand. MAKE THE MIDDLE EAST GREAT AGAIN!”
