UFC legend Conor McGregor is asking Irish citizens to help get him on the ballot in his bid for president just weeks ahead of the election.
McGregor, 37, born in Dublin and raised in Crumlin, issued the call for support on social media Thursday — promising his campaign and presidency would be about empowering the native people of the Emerald Isle.
“Citizens of Ireland, the time for real change is now!” the former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion said in a message posted to X.

“If you want to see my name on the ballot for the Presidency, I urge you to contact your local county councillors today and ask them to nominate me.”
“If you are a councillor who feels your voice is ignored, your hands tied, and your community overlooked, then I ask you to stand with me. Nominate me, and I will give you the platform and power to be truly heard.”
“Ar aghaidh, ar son na hEireann,” he concluded, which is Gaelic for “Forward for Ireland.”
Ireland’s presidential election is Oct. 24 and the MMA fighter has until Sept. 24 to secure his spot on the ballot, according to the BBC.
In order to be officially nominated for president, candidates need the backing of either 20 members of the Irish parliament or four of the 31 local authorities. An Irish citizen must also be over the age of 25.
McGregor has the backing of billionaire Elon Musk, who has waded deeper into politics on the British isles in recent weeks, including posting a St. George flag in support of English patriots who are spamming flags across the country.
“No one will fight harder for the people of Ireland than Conor McGregor!” Musk wrote, also posting two Irish flag emojis.
McGregor hopes to knock-out Independent Catherine Connolly and former Irish cabinet minister Heather Humphreys who will be the Fine Gael candidate, the BBC reported.
The country’s largest party, Fianna Fail, have yet to announce their candidate. Influential party Sinn Fein has not confirmed whether it will run a candidate or back someone else, the BBC reported.
McGregor’s announcement comes just over a month after the fighter lost an appeal against a civil court’s finding that he sexually assaulted a woman at a Dublin hotel in 2018.
The High Court in Dublin found McGregor liable for assaulting Nikita Hand, who said he “brutally raped and battered” her in a hotel penthouse.
McGregor has courted controversy since his time at the top of the UFC, who became lightweight champion in 2017. Zuffa LLCMcGregor was ordered to pay Hand equivalent to $285,000 in damages as well as $1.5 million in legal costs.
Prosecutors declined to bring criminal charges stating there was insufficient evidence for a conviction.
In July, social media instigator and rapper Azealia Banks shared several explicit photos of McGregor which the fighter addressed in a ballsy post.
“Don’t let them distract you with my [giant c–k] while they rob our country blind!” McGregor wrote in a since deleted post to X.
The Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey hucker’s bar, The Black Forge Inn, located in his beloved Crumlin, caught fire in July with police investigating the incident as a possible arson.
