A former UK local politician has been charged with repeatedly drugging and raping his then-wife over 13 years — with five other men also accused of raping or assaulting her.
Philip Young, 49, appeared in court in Swindon on Tuesday, charged with 56 offenses — including 11 counts of rape and the same number of drugging to allow sex — against now-ex-wife Joanne Young, 48, in a horrific ordeal between 2010 and 2023.
The former local councilor was also charged with “voyeurism on at least 200 other occasions” — and with possessing hundreds of porn images, including of kids, animals, rape and death.

A 46-year-old homeless man, Dean Hamilton, was charged with rape, sexual assault by penetration and two counts of sexual touching.
Two others — Norman Macksoni, 47, and Richard Wilkins, 61 — were charged with rape and other offenses, while Connor Sanderson Doyle, 31, was charged with sexual assault by penetration and sexual touching. Mohammed Hassan, 37, was charged with sexual touching.
Investigators are still trying to identify another man tied to the alleged abuse, a police spokesperson told the BBC.
All six appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where the accused rapist husband spoke only to confirm his name and address, the BBC reported. He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody.

Young served as a Conservative councilor between 2007 and 2010, the year the allegations start.
His ex-wife is being supported by specially trained officers. “We would ask that her privacy is respected at this time,” Wiltshire Police said in the statement.
