The nuclear-powered USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier collided with a merchant ship off the coast of Egypt, Navy officials said Thursday.
The US Navy said the carrier collided with the Besiktas-M ship at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday while operating near Port Said in the Mediterranean Sea.

There were no reports of injuries or flooding on the Truman, which carries a crew of 5,000, according to a statement from the U.S. Sixth Fleet. The incident is under investigation.
The carrier’s nuclear propulsion plants were also reported to be in “a safe and stable condition,” the statement said.
The Truman, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, was deployed to the Mediterranean last fall to protect American interests in the Middle East following Iran’s missile barrage on Israel.
The carrier was recently involved in a series of missile strikes against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been plaguing the Red Sea trade route in solidarity with Hamas.
