Vice President JD Vance is headed to Israel on Monday to help push forward the second phase of the historic Gaza peace deal.

Vance plans to visit the Holy Land alongside Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff to discuss the progress of President Trump’s 20-point peace plan to effectively end the war in Gaza, which concludes its first phase with Hamas returning the bodies of the 28 dead Israeli hostages, Times of Israel reported.

The terror group has returned the bodies of just 10 slain hostages so far, after having released the 20 remaining living captives Monday, The Jerusalem Post reported.

Hamas handed over the remains of slain hostage Eliyahu Margalit, 76, Israel announced on Saturday — marking the 10th dead captive returned to the Jewish state since the Israeli Defense Forces withdrew from roughly half of the Gaza Strip.

Despite signing on to the peace agreement, Hamas has put the deal on edge with a series of public executions and the apparent refusal to disarm.

Hamas politburo member Mohammed Nazzal told Reuters of the terror group’s refusal to commit to disarmament, which Israel has demanded as part of any truce. Hamas’ arms could prove to be a major obstacle as both sides, with the help of the US, work to create lasting peace.

Trump’s Sept. 29 peace plan called for the Palestinian group to immediately return all hostages before committing to disarmament and ceding governance of Gaza to a committee overseen by an international transitional body.

“Well, they’re going to disarm because they said they were going to disarm, and if they don’t disarm, we will disarm them,” Trump told reporters at a White House meeting this week.

Vance touted the landmark peace deal and praised the president’s unique approach to diplomacy, in an interview with Greta Van Susteren on Newsmax.

“So much has failed and the president said we’re not going to do the same stuff we’ve tried for fifty, sixty, seventy years that’s failed. We’re going to try something different,” the former Ohio senator told the outlet Friday.

“You realize that it’s the president’s constant, almost obsessive, focus on getting the deal done — identify the issues, work through the issues and get the old deal done,” he said, adding, “And that’s why we are where we are.”

Trump warned Wednesday, however, that if the remaining hostage remains are not returned as promised, he would give the go ahead for Israel to continue fighting in Gaza.

“Israel will return to those streets as soon as I say the word,” Trump told CNN. “If Israel could go in and knock the crap out of them, they’d do that.”
