Polly want a hero — and she got one!
A 10-year-old African Grey parrot named Milly was trapped in a Los Angeles storm drain for nearly three nights before being saved with the help of a YouTube celebrity.
The bird’s owner, Arturo Vasquez, told KABC-TV that he turned to parrot-loving YouTuber Marlene Mc’Cohen when the fire department and city crews said they couldn’t help.
“I was like, ‘Where and when?'” Mc’Cohen told the outlet. “‘Send me pictures and if it’s real, I will be there.’ I don’t know what we can do, but we did a lot.”
Mc’Cohen, who regularly encourages her roughly 134,000 followers to “engage not cage” their birds, rounded up a group of volunteers to save Milly.
At one point, the bird got spooked and hopped on a pipe, but eventually the team was able to coax her out safely.
Vasquez said he’s eternally grateful to Mc’Cohen and everyone who helped save his beloved pet.
