A van chasing after a person in a goofy gorilla costume may sound like something out of a screwball movie, but on Thursday it was part of an emergency preparedness drill in Tokyo.

During the exercise, staff from the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo drove after a man in a cartoonishly depressed gorilla suit, taking aim with tranquilizer guns, then capturing the fake beast in a wide swath of netting.

About 70 workers from the zoo participated in the exercise, according to the Agence France-Presse.

The focus of the annual drill was to prepare the staff for a potential animal escape.

The zoo, Japan’s oldest, opened in 1882.
